Grand Theft Auto 5 may have come out all the way back in 2013, but its immense amount of content has ensured it remains a hugely popular game to this day. Not only has there been a plethora of expansions and additional content, but a relentless modding community has made sure there is always something new and fun to enjoy. And that’s without even getting to the various GTA 5 cheats that can spice things up.

Continuing the trend of the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA 5 is the latest game to feature a wide variety of different cheats. These range from the expected basics to some more maverick options that are well worth trying out. We’ve got every single one covered here.

Here are all GTA 5 cheats for Xbox, Playstation and PC, with instructions of how to use them. We’ll also provide an explanation of all GTA 5 cheats as we go along.

How to use GTA 5 cheats

The method of cheats depends on the platform being used to play Grant Theft Auto 5. Here’s a breakdown of each one:

Xbox Consoles: On Xbox One or Xbox Series X, simply input the relevant buttons on the controller. There is no need to amend the options, just make sure the buttons are pressed relatively quickly. When the cheat is activated, a message will appear to tell you.
Playstation Consoles: On the PS4 or PS5, it’s exactly the same. Quickly input the buttons in the right order and you’ll get the message saying the cheat has worked. There is no need to fiddle with any options.

PC: If playing the Steam version, press the ~ key to open the console (the button below Escape, requires Shift to be pressed as well). Once the console is opened, enter the word that corresponds to the cheat you wish to activate. The symbol to open the console may differ depending on geographical location, but it should always be the button below Escape (may be ¬). If you are using a PC controller, the console combinations should work as well.
Phone (all platforms): Another method that works on all Playstation, Xbox and PC platforms is to use the in-game phone. Each cheat has a phone number assigned to it, so open your phone and dial the relevant number to activate the cheat.

Invincibility Cheat

This one does exactly what it says on the tin. Activating the cheat will make you invincible, and nothing will hurt your character at all. Be careful, because this only lasts for five minutes before you need to activate it again.

Max Health and Armor Cheat

Playstation: CIRCLE, L1, TRIANGLE, R2, X, SQUARE, CIRCLE, RIGHT, SQUARE, L1, L1, L1

This is another self-explanatory one, which isn’t quite as useful as the Invincibility cheat. The max health and armor code will simply fill up your health and armor bars. Handy in a pinch, or to save yourself wasting time by replenishing health the legitimate way.

Max Special Ability Cheat

Like the max health and armor cheat, this one will fill up your Special Ability bar. Obviously the ability in question depends on the character you are currently using. Michael’s is Bullet Time, Franklin is Driving Focus and Trevor’s is Red Mist. All of these are helpful depending on the situation, so it’s a handy cheat to have on standby.

Weapons and Ammo Cheat

This is easily one of the most useful and fun GTA 5 cheats. It will add every single weapon to your inventory, and completely fill up your ammunition as well. This is definitely the best cheat to prepare for an epic rampage through Los Santos.

Lower Wanted Level Cheat

This cheat code will reduce your wanted level by one star. You can use it repeatedly if you have seriously got on the wrong side of the law, but try and get into a safe spot first.

Raise Wanted Level Cheat

If you’re really in the mood for some chaos, you can also do the opposite. Use this cheat code to increase your wanted level by a star. Goes perfectly with the weapons and ammo cheat for a good old fashioned shootout.

Super Run Speed Cheat

Channel your inner Flash or Quicksilver with this ultra fast running cheat, which will considerably boost your speed. Very useful getting from A to B when you’re out in the wilderness with no vehicle nearby (alternatively, you can spawn a vehicle as you’ll find out below).

Super Swim Speed Cheat

Like the above, this will significantly increase swimming speed. More Aquaman than the Flash, and obviously comes in useful in the ocean.

Super Jump Cheat

This similar cheat will drastically boost your character’s ability to jump. Instead of a normal leap, the jump button will now positively propel you into the air, where you can hold down the button to leap even higher into the sky. It’s quite hard to judge at first but certainly looks cool.

Drunk Cheat

I’m not really sure where this one will help you, but if you want your character to suddenly have a few drinks too many, then input the Drunk cheat code. Given this significantly impedes your movement and aim, this is more of a novelty cheat than a useful one.

Parachute Cheat

This cheat will instantly provide your character with a parachute. If you’re high up and want a quick route back to ground level, this is the cheat for you.

Skyfall Cheat

The Skyfall cheat is another novelty one, but this is actually awesome. You’ll be whisked into the sky and dropped to the ground. The earlier parachute cheat is a good idea for this, where you’ll be treated to a wonderful view of Los Santos. Make sure you have a go at the skyfall cheat.

Low Gravity Cheat

Alter the laws of physics with this one, which will cause everything to float off upon collision. It’s another fun one that’s worth a try, creating some hilarious scenarios.

Bullet Time Aiming Cheat

This is a good one which slows down the game when you are aiming a weapon, a bit like Michael’s special ability. If you keep entering this cheat, it actually toggles between three different speeds, so you can make things as easy as you want.

Bullet Time World Cheat

Just like the above cheat, but instead of just slowing the aim down, it will literally slow down the whole game. I’m not a huge fan of this one, but it can also be toggled between three different speeds if you continue to enter the code.

Exploding Punch Cheat

Another bizarrely hilarious cheat, this will make your melee attacks cause a huge explosion when landing a hit. Cars and people can both be destroyed at ease with the exploding punch cheat.

Exploding Bullets Cheat

Like the exploding punch cheat, but exploding bullets! Everything hit with a bullet will be subjected to a massive explosion. You can only imagine the sheer chaos that can be unleashed with this cheat, especially with a gun that has a rapid rate of fire. Definitely have a try of this one and see what insanity unfolds.

Flaming Bullets Cheat

A less useful and fun cheat than the above, this one will cause the recipients of your bullets to catch fire instead. It doesn’t actually work on everything, and is most effective on flammable items.

Change Weather Cheat

This cheat allows you to toggle through all the weather options in GTA 5. Every time you enter the cheat, the weather will change to something else. If you have a certain weather in mind, simply keep inputting the cheat until it comes around. If only this one was available in real life…

Sliding Cars Cheat

Perhaps the most infuriating and redundant cheat on the whole list, the sliding cars cheat code will massively reduce every vehicle’s handling ability. Instead, the vehicle will slide all over the place, making it almost impossible to drive correctly. Only use this one if you are a glutton for punishment. It’s my least favourite of the GTA 5 cheats.

Black Cellphone Explosion Cheat

This somewhat strange cheat will change your phone colour… and also cause a random explosion somewhere nearby. Sometimes you need to live life on the edge, but be careful.

Director Mode Cheat

Whether this is strictly a cheat is debatable but the Director Mode is a huge addition to the game where you can tinker with countless scenarios involving many of the different characters. It’s also available on Playstation and Xbox from the Interaction Menu once you have completed the story.

This cheat code will only work once you have completed Trevor’s ‘Nervous Ron’ mission, found by going to to the cove near Ron Alternatives Wind Farm. You must approach it via a water vehicle to activate an event, before killing the enemies and boarding the Dodo Seaplane.

Spawn Kraken Submarine

This cheat code will only work once you have completed the ‘Wildlife Photography’ challenge which is quite a laborious task. You need to take 20 photographs of specific animals, and the challenge is unlocked after Franklin’s Strangers and Freaks Paparazzi mission. Once you have completed the challenge, the sub is unlocked which unlocks the potential to use this cheat.

Spawn Duke O’Death Car

PC: DEATHCAR

This cheat code will only work once you have completed a Duke O’Death event. The event is triggered by finding this car south of the airstrip by Sandy Shores. Get in the car and get away from your pursuers to unlock the vehicle. After it’s unlocked, the cheat code is yours to use at your leisure.

What is the GTA 5 money cheat?

Believe it or not, there is no GTA 5 money cheat. Despite dozens of other shortcuts, Rockstar apparently wanted to make sure you still earn your cash with good, honest work (or more likely, through crime). This was also the case in GTA 4, which did not have a money cheat after multiple previous games in the series did have one.

If you are really desperate, you can look online for a money mod instead. There are several of these out there, but will only be available on PC. It’s slightly more hassle than using the GTA 5 cheats, but it shouldn’t take too long to find and install one.
