The Sims 4 Death Flower - How to get and use Death Flowers

The Death Flower is one of the most important items in the Sims 4. This rare flower is a particular favourite of the Grim Reaper, and can be used to prevent a Sim from dying, or even to bring one back from the dead.

It can be heart-breaking to lose a Sim who has been part of the family for many in-game years, making the Death Flower a literal lifesaver. They aren’t exactly easy to come by (unless you cheat), but there are multiple ways of getting and using a Death Flower.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Death Flower in The Sims 4. We’ll explain how to get a Death Flower with or without cheats, and how to use a Death Flower.

How to get a Death Flower in the Sims 4 without cheats

To get a Death Flower, there are two main ways. The first involves gardening, and you will require level 5 Gardening Skill to pull it off:

Graft a Cherry to an Apple to make a Pomegranate
Graft a Lily to a Snapdragon to make an Orchid

Graft the Pomegranate to the Orchid to make Death Flowers
Harvest the flowers

Alternatively, you can buy a Death Flower from the Alchemy shop if you have the Magic Realm expansion. These are not always sold, as the stock in this shop rotates periodically. However, there is a chance to find a Death Flower on sale for 1,200 Simoleons.

How to get a Death Flower with cheats

The only cheat that can be used to obtain a Death Flower is the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat.

This is a general cheat that allows you to acquire items of your choice, and it will work on PC and Consoles. Follow these steps to get a Death Flower with the cheat.

Open the cheat console with these instructions depending on your platform:
- PC: Press CTRL, Shift and C
- Playstation: Press all shoulder buttons together
- Xbox: Press all shoulder buttons together
Type in “testingcheats true” and confirm
Open the console again and enter “bb.showhiddenobjects”

Search for “Death flower” within the search bar of Build mode and you will be able to place one in your lot

With the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat, the possibilities are endless. You will already have a huge array of new options, but can also enter “bb.showliveeditobjects” afterwards to gain even more items.

Even if you aren’t generally indulging in cheats, desperate times call for desperate measures. Using cheats is actively encouraged in the Sims 4 by EA themselves, so don’t worry about it.

How to use the Death Flower in the Sims 4

There are two uses for the Death Flower, both of which will save your Sim’s life – the only difference is that one is used to prevent death and the other will bring them back to life after they become as Ghost.

Use a Death Flower to prevent someone from dying

When a Sim is dying, the Death Flower can be offered to the Grim Reaper. This will stop the Grim Reaper in his tracks, and the Sim will survive.

The important part to note is that the dying Sim cannot use the Death Flower to save themselves. It has to be offered to the Grim Reaper by a different Sim.

It’s simple enough to use. When the Grim Reaper appears, approach him with the Sim holding the Death Flower and hand it over by selecting Give Death Flower. The Grim Reaper will be so happy that your Sim will be resurrected and will not become a tombstone.

Unfortunately, Sims who die of natural causes will only get a temporary reprieve. If your Sim is dying of old age then giving the Grim Reaper the Death Flower will spare their life, but it won’t make them any younger. This just means the Grim Reaper will show up again at a later date.

Use a Death Flower to bring a Ghost back to life

If you don’t offer the Death Flower in time, then you can bring a Ghost Sim back to life afterwards.

For this, you’ll need to make Ambrosia which requires the following items, as well as being Level 10 for Cooking and Gourmet Cooking:

A Death Flower
An Angelfish
A Potion of Youth

This is a pretty tough thing to make, given the requirements. The Angelfish can be sometimes bought from the Alchemy shop in the Realm of Magic expansion, but otherwise you can get one in Willow Creek. The Potion of Youth is purchased from the Rewards Store for 1500 Satisfaction Points.

Once you have the Ambrosia, have the Ghost Sim eat it and they will miraculously come back to life. You may have to spend a bit of time befriending the ghost before inviting them into your household, in order to make them eat it.

If you are using cheats but miss the opportunity to give the Death Flower to the Grim Reaper, then you can use the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat to get all of these ingredients as well.

How else can you bring Sims back to life?

Death Flowers and Ambrosia aren’t actually the only way to bring back dead Sims. Other options include using a Book of Life (once per Sim), the Wishing Well from the Romantic Garden Stuff expansion, or using the services of a Spellcaster from the Realm of Magic expansion

A Book of Life can be written by mastering the Writing skill, but it needs to be prepared in advance before they die. Complete the Bestselling Author Aspiration and then capture an epic saga on a Sim of your choice who is still alive. Once they die, the book can bring the same Sim back to life

The Wishing Well can resurrect a ghost if they get an Overwhelmingly Positive result. If they only get a Positive result, they will get Ambrosia which is just as helpful. It’s best to wish when the face on the Wishing Well is happy, giving a 20% chance of resurrection and 45% chance of the Ambrosia
As for the Spellcaster, reach Master rank and attempt the Dedeathify spell on a ghost. A Master Spellcaster can also brew a Potion of Prompt Resurrection, which will also do the trick. This requires a Death Flower, Death Metal and Zombie Carl

Some of these are a little more straightforward than others, and a couple require certain expansions. Nonetheless, it’s good to know there are some other options out there to save your Sims.
