Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – How to get Galarian Meowth
Galarian Meowth is a unique Pokémon that cannot be caught with conventional methods. Instead, players must complete some optional requirements at the Academy to snag this rare ally, along with its evolved version Perrserker.
As we’ll discuss below, it isn’t necessary to obtain these Steel type Pokemon for your Pokedex, but if you are cat lover in search of some feline friends then you’ve come to the right place. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get a Galarian Meowth in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
How to get Galarian Meowth in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
As mentioned above, you cannot catch a Galarian Meowth in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The only way to acquire it is to complete language classes with Salvatore in Uva Academy (in Violet version) or Naranja Academy (in Scarlet version) and then pass the exams.
These classes are not always available to you, and in order to unlock them all you must conquer 7 gyms throughout Paldea. If you find that the Languages class is not an option, it’s because you haven’t beaten enough of the gym leaders.
Once you have completed six Languages classes and passed both a midterm and final exam, you will be able to speak to Salvatore and complete some bonding events. After four bonding events are completed, your reward will be the Galarian Meowth Pokemon.
After the final exam is done, speak to Salvatore in the following places in this order to get your Galarian Meowth:
- The Academy Staff Room
- Outside in the school grounds near a tree (tell him to give the injured Pawmi a potion)
- Inside the Biology Lab
- The Academy Staff Room (again)
These bonding events revolve around a cute injured Pawmi under Salvatore’s care, and don’t require any great time sacrifice.
Trading for a Galarian Meowth
If you can’t be bothered with the above, there’s of course one other option – a trade.
There are no NPCs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that will trade a Galarian Meowth, but you can chance your arm online and see if any kind-hearted trainers out there will swap for something in your possession.
Head to somewhere like Reddit or another forum to try your luck with a trade request.
How to complete the Academy language exams
At the front desk of the academy, you will be asked if you wish to enroll in a variety of classes, including Languages (provided you have sufficient gym badges). Once you have selected this, you will have to sit through 3 Languages classes before unlocking a midterm exam. After passing this, attend another 3 Languages to unlock the final exam.
Note that you don’t need to get any of the questions correct in the classes themselves – only the exam answers.
You will require 3 correct answers to pass the midterm exam and 4 correct answers out of 5 to pass the final exam. They aren’t the most taxing – especially since the questions are recycled from the classes – but we have the correct answers below just in case.
Along with progressing your pursuit of a Galarian Meowth, you’ll also come away with a supply of Exp. Candies for passing the exams.

Not exactly difficult, given two of these questions are exactly the same as before!
How to get Perrserker in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Galarian Meowth evolves into Perrserker at level 28. You cannot catch a Perrserker either, meaning the only way to obtain this Pokemon is to get a Galarian Meowth by following the steps above and evolving it.
The Galarian Meowth rewarded by Salvatore comes at level 5, so there’s a little bit of work to do in order to reach to required evolution level. However, with all of the Exp Candies you can obtain from the Academy classes, you should be able to level up pretty quickly and avoid any excessive grinding.
If you want a Persian, then you’ll have to get hold of a regular Meowth and evolve them instead.
Is Galarian Meowth good in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
All of this hassle may beg the question of whether you should actually bother with the Galarian Meowth.
One of the crucial points to note here is that you do not need Galarian Meowth or Perrserker to complete your Pokedex.
Therefore if you are simply looking to tick this achievement off the list or want to get the Shiny Charm (which increases your chances of encountering shiny Pokemon), the Galarian Meowth is not necessary.
Once Galarian Meowth evolves into Perrserker, you will have a relatively strong Pokemon on your hands, but there are certainly far stronger allies out there. Perrserker doesn’t get anywhere near the top of most tier lists out there, meaning they are likely to be outstripped pretty quickly by your other Pokemon. Saying that, I have also seen people praise Perrserker’s hidden Steely Spirit ability, that can boost the party’s Steel skills and works well after debuffing an enemy’s defence.
As it happens, Perrserker was actually banned from the first season of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Ranked Battles.
Overall, the decision of whether Galarian Meowth and Perrserker are worth the effort depends more on your fondness of these Pokemon cosmetically rather than any great gameplay benefits.
