genshin impact windsong lyre

The Windsong Lyre is a musical instrument that can be obtained and played in Genshin Impact. The instrument has a surprisingly deep variety of notes, allowing a plethora of different songs to be covered.

There are so many different options that it can be difficult to know where to start. Thankfully, we’ve done a bit of homework and found some of the best covers out there. Here’s our full Genshin Impact Windsong Lyre guide, complete with a selection of the best Windsong Lyre songs to play.

How to obtain the Windsong Lyre in Genshin Impact

The Windsong Lyre was first made available during the Invitation of Windblume event, where it could be obtained by trading in 280 Festive Tour Tickets. The event lasted until December 2021, so this opportunity is now long gone.

If you missed this event, don’t worry. You can still obtain the Windsong Lyre by going to the shopping district in Mondstadt and talking to Marjorie the souvenir seller. She will sell you the Windsong Lyre for 150,000 Mora, which isn’t exactly cheap but once it’s bought it’ll be yours forever.

How to play the Windsong Lyre in Genshin Impact

The Windsong Lyre is a gadget that must be equipped and then selected by pressing L1 and O on Playstation or Z on PC.

Once you have done so, your character will start to play the Lyre. Three lines of the seven main notes appear, namely do, re, me, fa, so, la, ti.

The three rows affect the tone of the note being played. The middle row is alto clef, which plays it at a normal pitch. The upper row is the treble clef which plays at a higher pitch. Finally, the bottom row is the bass clef which plays at a lower pitch.

You can play multiple notes at the same time, but cannot hold a button down to draw out the note.

PC Windsong Lyre Controls

  • Treble Clef (top row) ranges from keys Q to U
  • Alto Clef (middle row) ranges from keys A to J
  • Bass Clef (bottom row) ranges from keys Z to M

NOTE: The Windsong Lyre is better to play on the PC as it is easier to hit multiple notes at the same time.

Playstation Windsong Lyre Controls

  • The seven notes are mapped to left, up, right, down, square, triangle and circle respectively
  • Hold R1 whilst pressing the note to perform it in Treble Clef (top row)
  • Hold L1 whilst pressing the note to perform it in Bass Clef (bottom row)
  • Do not hold either of them whilst pressing the note to perform it in Alto Clef (middle row)

The main theme of Genshin Impact is called Dream Aria, and no list of Windsong Lyre covers would be complete without it.

Take a listen to the version from Animuz here.

Megalovania – Undertale OST

Tobey Fox’s single-handed indie masterpiece Undertale was praised for many things, and the soundtrack was certainly one of them.

It didn’t take long for one of its most popular tracks, Megalovania to be worked out by Genshin Impact Windsong Lyre players.

Credit to Saxophy, who plays it wonderfully here.

Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra

One of Sinatra’s most popular hits sounds gorgeous on the Windsong Lyre, which somehow captures an even more sentimental and moving tone. Sinatra’s song was actually a cover itself, but Ol’ Blue Eyes surely has the most recognisable version.

This is played by FistHero here, where the comments also contain the relevant notes for ease of reference.

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) – Kate Bush

Stranger Things Season 4 turned this song from an old-school classic to a bona fide modern-day phenomenon.

He’s A Pirate – Pirates of the Caribbean OST

This is an absolute classic from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, evoking memories of Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner’s swashbuckling adventures.

Coffin Dance

Most TikTok users will be familiar with this one, which serves as another example of the internet’s bizarrely brilliant sense of humour.

zhongli theme genshin lyre

Zhongli’s Theme – Genshin Impact OST

This is one of the most popular Windsong Lyre videos ever released, amassing over one and a half million views on Youtube, and counting.

It’s a testament to Zhongli’s popularity as a character, whose theme starts slow but soon becomes tricky to play as things ramp up.

Once again, Animuz has a great version you can check out here.

Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley

What list would be complete without the song that is simultaneously one of the internet’s most beloved and despised, depending on the context? Its amusing cultural impact resulted in Rick Astley ironically voted the Best Act Ever at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The craze of Rick Rolling hit its peak well over a decade ago, but there’s still a time and place for it. The Windsong Lyre actually brings out a really pleasant version of the 80s hit.

Have a listen to Kobayashii performing it here.

Happy Birthday

It may be a relatively basic one, but as arguably the most well-known song in the entire world, why not? After all, Genshin Impact characters actually celebrate their birthdays and receive a birthday package on the big day. You may as well accompany it with a celebratory song.
