Musk Reef is a secret island in Genshin Impact, which is home to the Spiral Abyss. The Spiral Abyss is a crucial element of Genshin Impact, which periodically resets and can provide many different rewards. This makes the domain particularly lucrative for free-to-play Genshin Impact players.

The one-time rewards include hundreds of thousands of Mora and plenty of Primogems. Most notably, you can also unlock two characters (Xiangling and Collei) for free. There’s also plenty more Mora, Primogems and Mystic Enhancement Ores which will reset twice a month to be reclaimed by clearing certain floors.

With so much up for grabs, it’s important that you know how to reach Musk Reef. It’s not particularly difficult, and we’ve got it all covered. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get to Musk Reef in Genshin Impact.

Where is Musk Reef on the map?

As you’ll see in the above image, Musk Reef is on the Eastern edge of the map, across from Cape Oath on the Galesong Hill peninsula.

This isn’t too far from Mondstadt. Just head south-east and follow the land around through Dadaupa Gorge until you reach Cape Oath. The way to Musk Reef will be unlocked from here.

How to get to Musk Reef in Genshin Impact

Getting to Musk Reef is actually a pretty straightforward task once you know what you are doing.

Essentially, you must open a secret portal at Cape Oath which will teleport you to Musk Reef.

1. Head to Cape Oath at the edge of the land, south-east of Mondstadt

2. Defeat the enemies in the area first (optional)

3. Locate the purple portal in the sky and the circular structure on the ground below, which is surrounded by three small statues

4. Explore the area to find three blue spirits called Seelies. Approach the Seelies to make them follow you. If they start going in the wrong direction, just go around them and lure them back towards the portal

5. The first Seelie is on the edge of the cliff just to the South of the portal area. Run around and you can get up the cliff from it’s southern side

6. The next Seelie is floating around the trees just to the east of the portal area. This one likes to take a detour towards the cliff-edge but if you follow it you can guide it back to the right spot

7. The final Seelie is right on the northern tip of the land, on the edge of the cliff

8. Lead them back to the circular stone structure beneath the portal one by one, where they will disappear into the three statues dotted around the area

9. Once you have led all three back to the general area of the portal, an air current will be created within the stone circle

10. Jump into the air current and use your glider. You’ll be propelled upwards towards the portal and teleported to Musk Reef

That’s all there is to it. It’s a pretty simple puzzle, and the enemies are not difficult either. You can ignore them altogether if you wish.

Once you get to Musk Reef, it’s hard to miss the Spiral Abyss entrance, which is a large circular gate in the water.

Other ways to get to Musk Reef in Genshin Impact

There are actually a couple of other ways to get to Musk Reef, if you do not wish to locate the Seelies.

You can get there by perching on the end of the peninsula and gliding all the way across. This will require a lot of stamina, and takes a while to make it all the way. There is a rock you can land on near Musk Reef to replenish your stamina but if you fall short you will drown in the water and be returned to Cape Oath.

An even more labourious method involves freezing the water with a Cryo character to slowly but surely make it all the way across the sea.

Finally, it’s also possible to take the Waverider boat to Musk Reef. Previously, you could not travel outside Inazuma but if you complete Act 2 of Raiden Shogun’s story quest in Inazuma. Once you have done so, the Sakoku Decree will be lifted and you can now sail the seas with the Waverider. It’s a long way to Musk Reef though…

To be honest, all of these methods will be longer and harder than solving the basic puzzle at Cape Oath, so there isn’t much motivation to bother with them. We would recommend simply finding the Seelies. Getting to Musk Reef via the portal will also reward you with the Initiating Warp Drive! Achievement, which will earn 5 Primogems. Better than nothing, and these are Primogems you will not earn by employing the other methods.

How to unlock Spiral Abyss in Musk Reef

To unlock Spiral Abyss at Musk Reef, you must be at Adventure Rank 20. Make sure you have reached this rank before you get there by accumulating as much Adventure EXP as possible.

Acquire Adventure EXP by completing all types of quests, clearing daily commissions, opening chests, finding Teleport Waypoints and many more methods. It’s not a hugely onerous task, and most players will likely reach Adventure Rank 20 without much trouble.

This is the only requirement to unlock Spiral Abyss. Otherwise, there is no particular reason to visit Musk Reef except to collect some White Ore, which can be found in decent supply there.

There is no Teleport Waypoint on Musk Reef, but as Spiral Abyss is classed as a domain you can teleport to it at will. This makes it easy to get back and repeatedly challenge the Spiral Abyss floors without having to use the portal on Cape Oath again.
