Elden Ring – How to increase Memory Slots

elden ring how to increase memory slots

Memory Slots are an incredibly important part of any mage-type build in Elden Ring. They essentially dictate how many spells you can memorise at any one time. The more Memory Slots, the more spells you can use during combat. And the more magical options, the better your chances of overcoming the relentless challenge of Elden Ring.

Generally, the strongest spells will take up two Memory Slots but most of them will cost a single slot. The memorised spells can be re-jigged whenever you rest at a site of grace by selecting the ‘Memorise Spells’ option, so you are never locked into a magic setup forever. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to try out new spells and see which ones best suit your playstyle.

However, none of it matters unless you unlock enough space to learn new spells, so here’s everything you need to know about how to increase Memory Slots in Elden Ring.

How to increase Memory Slots in Elden Ring

Increasing memory slots is as simple as finding Memory Stones, which are dotted around the Lands Between. These are items found in a variety of ways such as looting chests, defeating bosses or purchasing them.

Each class starts with 2 Memory Slots, and this stat will automatically increase by 1 point whenever you find a Memory Stone. There is no need to equip the stones and their effect will automatically apply.

Memory Slots are invaluable for any build that will utilise Sorceries and Incantations, but aren’t as important for melee builds relying upon brute force.

All Elden Ring Memory Stone locations

Here are the locations of the 8 possible Memory Stones. Some are easily found. Others, not so much.

  1. Twin Maiden Husks, Roundtable Hold. This one’s easy. A Memory Stone can be purchased from the Twin Maiden Husks for the very reasonable price of 3,000 runes.
  2. Oridys’s Rise, Limgrave. Found on the eastern edge of the Weeping Peninsula on a raised plateau, find the three turtles hiding around the area to unlock the entrance seal. One is directly across from the door. Another is in a shallow lake just south-west of the tower (it’s invisible but causes ripples in the water so slash away around the middle of the lake). The other is on the left-hand side of the entrance in a bush. Climb the tower to find a Memory Stone in a chest at the top.
  3. Converted Tower, Liurnia of the Lakes. In the south-west area of Liurnia, find Converted Tower. You can reach the tower by jumping up the broken walls, where you’ll eventually be able to access the roof. Once there, open the chest to snag the Memory Stone.
  4. Raya Lucaria Academy, Liurnia of the Lakes: Generally considered the second legacy dungeon, make your way through the Academy to eventually face the Red Wolf of Radagon boss. Beat it to automatically obtain this Memory Stone.
  5. Seluvis’s Rise, Liurnia of the Lakes. At the Three Sisters area, there are three towers. First, go to Ranni’s Rise, climb to the top and talk to Ranni (don’t worry, accepting her quest doesn’t lock anything in regarding endings). After doing this, the entrance to Seluvis’s Rise will be unlocked. Enter this tower in the southern part of Three Sisters and climb to the top to find another Memory Stone inside a chest.
  6. Testu’s Rise, Liurnia of the Lakes. This tower is north of Raya Lucaria Academy on a small island. Once again, you’ll need to hit three turtles to unlock the door. The first is found just north-east of the tower. Then head south and find another one in a tree. Finally, from the entrance go south-east down the cliff where the third turtle is found. Once they are all struck, simply go inside and climb to the top of the tower to find the Memory Stone in a chest.
  7. Hermit Village, Altus Plateau. On Mt Gelmir, you’ll receive a Memory Stone for beating Demi-Human Queen Maggie. She is entirely optional, and can be found by heading north-east from the Craftsman’s Shack site of grace and proceeding through Hermit Village.
  8. Lenne’s Rise, Caelid. On the eastern side of Caelid, you will find Lenne’s Rise. There is a Spirit Spring just south of the tower that can get you up high, where you will need to double-jump whilst riding Torrent to get inside. If you get it right, you can land straight onto the outer stairs. Once you’ve made it, climb the tower to find a Memory Stone in a chest.

How to get the Moon of Nokstella talisman

The Moon of Nokstella Talisman is found in the underground city of Nokstella (exact location pictured above). There are a couple of ways to access Nokstella – either progress Ranni’s questline to unlock a waygate that teleports you there, or take the coffin from the Siofra Aqueduct after defeating two Valiant Gargoyles (and potentially two Crucible Knights along the way!).

This is a long, hard road. Whichever way you approach Nokstella you must beat Starscourge Radahn and explore Nokron, the other Eternal City underground. This is unlocked via the crater made in Limgrave by a shooting star that flies into the distance after beating Radahn . If you are going via Ranni’s questline, the Fingerslayer Blade that Ranni wants is in Nokron, which is also near the Siofra Aqueduct.

When you reach Nokstella, you must gradually make your way through the city, fighting numerous foes and avoiding the huge spheres that roll down the steps. Head upstairs and keep progressing towards the large building on the western side of the map. This is the throne room, where the Moon of Nokstella talisman is found inside a chest under the throne. Unfortunately, you must defeat a Nox Warrior and two mimics to get it. None of this is easy, but the two extra Memory Slots are worth it.

The talisman has a weight of just 0.8, making it an excellent option for magic users.
