All Elden Ring Walking Mausoleum locations

elden ring walking mausoleum

Elden Ring has a huge plethora of different regions, dungeons and enemies to encounter on your long quest through the Lands Between. With little in the way of in-game guidance, it’s easy to miss some of the most interesting content.

Among the most intriguing beings in the land are Walking Mausoleums. These massive stoney structures walk around on huge legs, often ringing a bell and generally posing a serious threat if you walk too close. A Walking Mausoleum can spring into the air and crush you, sometimes inflicting a one-shot kill.

Despite the danger, Walking Mausoleums are also incredibly useful if you know where to find them and how to utilise them. Here’s everything you need to know about Walking Mausoleums, including all Elden Ring Walking Mausoleum locations.

What do Walking Mausoleums do in Elden Ring?

Walking Mausoleums are somewhat bizarre entities, and in typical FromSoftware style it is not made clear within Elden Ring what you are even supposed to do with them.

Walking Mausoleums can be used to duplicate Remembrances earned from certain bosses, including many of the hardest in the game. These Remembrances are automatically obtained once you emerge victorious against one of Elden Ring’s main bosses.

If you are unaware, Remembrances can be used for two things:

  • Trade them with Enia at Roundtable Hold for powerful equipment or magic relating to the boss you beat to obtain the Remembrance
  • Sell them for a significant one-off sum of runes. The value varies depending on the Remembrance

Each Remembrance has multiple trade options with Enia, meaning you must to make a tough choice of which equipment or magic you want. This makes Walking Mausoleums a very important tool. Simply put, duplicating these powerful items allows you to obtain more of the legendary rewards on offer.

How many Walking Mausoleums are there in Elden Ring?

There are a total of 7 Walking Mausoleums in Elden Ring. These are dotted around every corner of the Lands Between, though it’s likely you will inadvertently stumble upon a few of them as you explore.

The Walking Mausoleums come in two categories:

  • 5 of the Walking Mausoleums have bells attached
  • 2 of the Walking Mausoleums do NOT have bells attached

This is important, because only the Walking Mausoleums with bells are capable of duplicating the demi-god Remembrances. If you have beaten a demi-god (Godrick, Rennala, Radahn, Rykar, Morgott, Malenia or Mohg) but the Remembrance isn’t available for duplication, it’s probably because you are using a Walking Mausoleum that doesn’t have a bell.

walking mausoleum skulls

How to duplicate Remembrances at a Walking Mausoleum

When you encounter a Walking Mausoleum, it will be inaccessible until you have attacked and destroyed the white skulls attached to it. Most of the time these are on the feet of the Walking Mausoleum, but a couple of the Walking Mausoleums have these in different areas, which will be explained below. See the picture above for an example of what these skulls look like.

Beware, the Walking Mausoleums can attack with stomps and jumping slams that can do huge damage. It’s therefore advisable to take them on whilst on horseback, so you can quickly escape when you see it wind up an attack.

Once all of the skulls are destroyed (they only take one hit each), the Walking Mausoleum will collapse onto the floor, enabling you to get inside and find an altar.

Approach the altar with the creepy black corpse, and you will be able to duplicate a Remembrance. This will render the Mausoleum useless from this point forwards because you can only use each Walking Mausoleum once.

If you don’t have a Remembrance you are keen to duplicate, you can always leave it and come back later when your collection has grown.

All Elden Ring Walking Mausoleum locations

Here are all Elden Ring Walking Mausoleum locations, with any relevant additional details that are required.

elden ring walking mausoleum locations

Weeping Peninsula, Limgrave

On the Western side of Limgrave, near either the Fourth Church of Marika or Isolated Merchant’s Shack Sites of Grace, there’s a Walking Mausoleum. The skulls are found on the feet.

walking mausoleum location liurnia

Near Raya Lucaria Academy, Liurnia of the Lakes

This Walking Mausoleum is in the water northeast of Raya Lucaria Academy. The closest Site of Grace is Raya Lucario Crystal Tunnel.

The skulls on this Walking Mausoleum are not on the feet. Instead, you need to actually get onto the ledge-like body of the Mausoleum, where the skulls are found on either side of the door.

There are two ways to get on the body. You can jump down the stones on the nearby cliff to reach it, but I wouldn’t recommend it – if you fall, you’ll die. Instead, find the Spirit Spring hidden amongst the rocks on ground level where you can launch into the air and double-jump onto it. If you miss you can try again without taking damage, making this the preferable method.

If the Walking Mausoleum isn’t close enough, wait for it to walk towards you and try again.

elden ring mausoleum compound

Bellum Highway, Liurnia of the Lakes (2 Walking Mausoleums)

These Walking Mausoleums are close to each other, and are both near the Mausoleum Compound Site of Grace. One is found just north of it, and the other is to south. The skulls are found on the feet of these Walking Mausoleums.

NOTE: These two Walking Mausoleums do NOT have bells, meaning you will not be able to duplicate the Remembrances obtained from demi-god bosses here.

castle sol main gate site of grace

Castle Sol, Mountaintops of the Giants

Head to the Castle Sol Main Gate Site of Grace where you can’t really miss the Walking Mausoleum stomping around outside. The skulls blend in with the snow so are a little harder to spot, but they are found on the feet.

elden ring walking mausoleum locations map

Deeproot Depths, Underground Map

Go to the Nameless Eternal City Site of Grace in the Underground map (which takes a while to unlock itself). Follow the noise through the clearing where you’ll see a giant tree as well as the Walking Mausoleum.

This is another Mausoleum where the skulls are on the body rather than the feet. Climb up the tree branches, avoiding or killing the enemies, and run right to the edge where you can jump off and make it onto the ledge of the Mausoleum. Again, the skulls are found either side of the door.

consecrated snowfield site of grace

Haligtree, Consecrated Snowfield

Next to the Apostate Derelict Site of Grace, you’ll find a Walking Mausoleum in the distance, blasting blue magic projectiles all around it. This is a tricky one as you have to avoid its magic, so stay on the move whilst on horseback. When you reach the Walking Mausoleum, again the snow makes the skulls more difficult to see but they are all on the feet.

Can you duplicate all Remembrances in Elden Ring?

You cannot duplicate all Elden Ring Remembrances in one playthrough.

There are 15 Remembrances and only 7 Walking Mausoleums, meaning you will have to choose carefully when you have the opportunity to duplicate.

elden ring how to use walking mausoleums

Can you duplicate a Remembrance after you have used it?

Yes. Even if the Remembrance is long gone, the fact that it was previously in your inventory means you will have the chance to obtain another one. It doesn’t matter whether you traded it for runes or swapped it for something with Enia.

However, you can only duplicate each Remembrance once.

Even if the equipment on offer doesn’t interest you there is really no downside to duplicating your Remembrances, especially when you get to the end of the game. The worst case scenario is that you can use your duplicated Remembrance to gain a hefty supply of runes. Just remember there are is a limit to how many you can duplicate, so pick the best ones to clone.

Why isn’t the Walking Mausoleum working?

If you are not able to duplicate the Remembrance you want, then it is probably because of one of the following issues:

  • You have already used that Walking Mausoleum before. You can only use each Walking Mausoleum for one duplication.
  • You have already duplicated the Remembrance. Like Mausoleums, these are one-duplication only. Once it’s duplicated, it will not show up as an option again.
  • You are using a Walking Mausoleum that doesn’t have a bell. If you try to duplicate a demi-god Remembrance, you will only be able to do so at one of the Walking Mausoleums that has a bell. There are two without bells, and these are both based near the Bellum Highway in Liurnia. Head to one of the other five Walking Mausoleums and try again. As long as you haven’t duplicated the Remembrance before, or used up all five of the bell-containing Mausoleums already, you should be fine.

Many people have had these sorts of problems since Elden Ring was launched, but it always seems to come down to these issues. The most common appears be people attempting demi-god Remembrance duplication at a bell-less Walking Mausoleum.
